Why no Scottish dates? The furthest north he's going is Cambridge :( ... I've invested in his new album on bandstocks so I'm entitled to the early tickets but my nearest gig is over 300 miles away.

Don't get me wrong, McGee is an arse. But a statement such as "his only achievement was to sign Oasis" is way wide of the mark. The Jesus and Mary Chain? My Bloody Valentine? Both those bands are far more important than Oasis could ever hope to be. McGee's greatest achievement is discovering JAMC not Oasis.

Singer claims he was the anti-war member
Sun 14 Dec, 2008
Whats that meant to mean Sophie? Here, There and Everywhere is an absolute classic! Say what you like about Paul McCartney (he is of course an arse as you say) but you can't fault his songwriting during his time in the Beatles. He wrote Hey Jude, Yesterday, Eleanor Rigby etc. for christ sake! His songs were just as important as Lennon's.

Beatles and The Who stand to lose royalties if the law isn't amended
Fri 12 Dec, 2008
NicholaCarr: It means the recordings go out of copyright, they go into the public domain and they become free to the public. The recordings become completely legal to download, share and copy. I don't think many people realise it but alot of Elvis Presley etc. early recordings are out of copyright in this country. Meaning you can bit-torrent/limewire them to your hearts content completely legally.

Frontman says veterans will become 'a singles band'
Wed 10 Dec, 2008
Billy Corgan really is a detestable cunt. How hard is it to understand what people want from a Smashing Pumpkins show? They want to hear the hits, Today, 1979 etc. not utter wank 30 minute self indulgent guitar solos and have Corgan berate them for not apreciating his art.If James Iha became increasingly negative I can only imagine it is because Billy Corgan treated him like shit. It is common knowledge the Smashing Pumpkins always were a Billy Corgan dictatorship. It is funny how he never mentioned this when he asked James Iha and D'arcy to be part of the reunion a couple of years ago though. Sounds like he's pissed off because Iha didn't want to be a part of it. Billy corgan is doing a brilliant job of losing all the fans his band ever had right now.

'If something goes wrong you should be compensated' says drummer
Tue 25 Nov, 2008
People who are attacking the guy over this don't seem to understand the law. This is exactly the kind of thing tort law is there for. It is a perfectly reasonable claim and a very trivial sum of money he is seeking. It's clearly not all about the money. If someone was at fault for his injuries as seems likely then it is perfectly fair that he should be compensated.By the way whatever you think of Blink 182, Travis Barker has always been regarded as by far the most musically talented member of that band, he is a great drummer. Certainly in current popular music he is one of the best. Obviously there are better drummers in the Jazz and Metal genres but in his field he is brilliant.

Trio reveal work on new record is already underway

I like Muse, and I'm glad we have bands like Muse who aren't afraid to be a little larger than life. If you want to play stadiums I think you have to be. However I don't see what is so original about them or how exactly they are pushing the envelope? It's all recycled to me, nothing wrong with that and they do it very well but that's my opinion. My favourite stuff of theirs is their most poppy stuff. I love Supermassive Black Hole, I believe it's their best song. I'm not such a fan of their heavily prog influenced stuff. I think there are plenty of more technically adept metal bands who do prog better, ie. Opeth, Queensryche, Mastodon. I do think Matt Bellamy is an excellent guitarist. I wish he would work on his voice, particularly his breath control so you couldn't hear him inhaling heavily before every line though.

The drummer is seeking damages from two companies
Sat 22 Nov, 2008
domthemod, it clearly has nothing to do with the money as he is suing for $25,000 which obviously is a drop in the ocean to someone like him. If you were in a near fatal plane crash you would want to see the party at fault held to account also. It's not about the money, it's about principle.

Debate errupts over New Yorker interview with the purple one

The Gold Experience was only 13 years ago nickster, that's an awesome album. But yeah basically Prince has always been a bit of an arse, but since he became a Jehovah's Witness he has been outdoing himself. If these comments are true it's a bit sad given that in his heyday he used to play on the ambiguity surrounding his sexuality and he was always known to be extremely sexually adventurous. He also has a fairly significant gay following. I hope Perez is right ... Prince remains one of the greatest live performers you will ever see though and he's really very underrated as a guitarist. So anyone claiming he's not musically relevant anymore needs to catch him live.

Band reveal all about 'Under The Iron Sea' follow-up
Fri 01 Aug, 2008
Soundedd, the fact that Keane are probably the only band on your ipod not to use guitars says far more about your limited taste in, and knowledge of music than it does Keane's uniqueness as a band.I know there's no accounting for taste but how anyone can be even remotely excited at the prospect of new Keane, Razorlight and Snow Patrol records is beyond me. Honest to god they are collectively about as exciting as dry toast.

Billy Corgan says label 'do not have the right' to use their name
Wed 26 Mar, 2008
I agree with points 2 and 3 ... Don't really see that point 1 is of any significance though. For starters D'arcy had already left the band (possibly been fired) by the time they split so it never seemed likely she was going to take part in the reunion. James Iha had no interest in the reunion.
Anyways, it's always been fairly common knowledge that almost everything you hear on a Pumpkins record was performed by Corgan and Chamberlin. Corgan played most of the guitar and bass parts on the records. Iha and D'arcy had very little input when they were in the band because as you say Smashing Pumpkins has certainly never been a democracy. So it's really the same band it's always been. Unfortunately Billy Corgan just doesn't appear to be able to write the types of songs he once did any longer.

Mark ronson did the band arrangements on his album. Anyone who knows anything about musical composition will know that arranging is quite a skill in itself. He also had writing credits on most of the songs on Back to Black so he is far from inept as a songwriter. Personally there are people I would rather have seen nominated ahead of Mark Ronson but this is the Brit Awards people! Popular artist have always been the order of the day. I'm glad to see someone who produces some excellent soul/Motown influenced pop tunes nominated over the usual dross.
I love the Stone Roses and Ian Brown, but he's not nominated as 'The World Is Yours' is probably his most dissapointing album to date. It's not really a farce he wasn't nominated, the album just isn't very good. A farce maybe that the Stone Roses never won a brit for their first album or that Ian Brown never won any brits the year 'Music of the Spheres' was released. But I don't see why he is particularly worthy of being nominated for anything this year other than possibly the Outstanding Contribution award.
