King Khan, Jason Lytle, Amazing Baby kick off final SXSW 2009 day
Last day of musical action gears up in Austin for this year's event
King Khan And The Shrines, Jason Lytle and Amazing Baby were among the first acts to play at the South By Southwest festival today (March 21) – the final day of official action for the 2009 event in Austin.
King Khan and his eccentric gang played in the open air at Waterloo Park in the scorching sun at 2:20pm (CST). Khan arrived on stage wearing a crown and cape and led the band through an energetic show of high-tempo saxophone-led rock'n'roll – complete with a dancer on stage.
During 'Welfare Bread' the frontman asked the audience to burn dollar bills – with one crowd member passing up a flaming note to him.
Over at the Mohawk Patio at 1pm former Grandaddy man Jason Lytle played another show at the event – just 12 hours after he had played a show at the Central Predbyterian Church. He played a similar set to the previous one, closing with Grandaddy’s 'Jed The Humanoid'.
Amazing Baby pulled a healthy crowd at Mohawk at 4:20pm, while Lady Sovereign impressed at Peckerhead at 5:30pm.
