Amy Winehouse to release new album 'next year'

Record label boss says new effort is 'hopefully' on the way

Amy Winehouse is "hopefully" going to release the follow-up to her 2006 album 'Back To Black' next year, according to her record label boss.

Island records co-president Darcus Beese told BBC News that some demos for the long-awaited third album from the singer had already been recorded.

"I've heard a couple of song demos that absolutely floored me," he said. "Hopefully we'll have her album next year."

He added that the demo sessions had been recorded "in fits and starts".

Winehouse has been overseeing the release of her goddaughter, Dionne Bromfield's debut album, 'Introducing Dionne Bromfield', out Monday (October 12). The album is being released through Winehouse's own record label, Lioness Records.

To promote the record Winehouse is set to make her public comeback on 'Strictly Come Dancing' tomorrow (October 10), singing backing vocals for Bromfield.

I do hope that Amy comes back with some great new material as, unlike the haters, i try to concentrate on her amazing songwriting skills rather than the carcrash private life...better than landfill indie like the woeful Editors for example.

Editors are excellent! The new album is superb. Anway, I don't see this happening if I'm being honest, not when she says it will anyway, and if it does I don't envisage it being anywhere near as good as 'Back to Black', I've given up on her ever making a good record again. She's become a grotesque tabloid circus now, through no fault of her own, however that really is something that's quite hard to get past when you think of any new album of her's, she distracts people from her own music and it's very hard to see how she'll be able to focus fully on it herself when its taken her this long to even record demos.
