Pete Doherty: 'Babyshambles are better than Oasis'

Singer says he wants to knock Gallaghers off their perch

Pete Doherty has said that he wants his current band Babyshambles to make a comeback album soon – to knock Oasis off their perch as Britain's biggest band.

The singer/guitarist, who also has a solo career and is planning a Libertines reunion, told NME.COM that he had been impressed by the Manchester legends' latest album, 'Dig Out Your Soul', so had made a vow to better it with his own group.

"With Oasis stepping up a gear and proving they've still got it, they need to be shown there are people out there who can surpass them," Doherty told NME.COM.

He added: "Can we match them? The quality is good [in Oasis], but there really is no competition because my band is the greatest in the world and we're going to prove it."

When asked when we should expect a new Babyshambles album, he said: "It's record company politics. Please, let it happen as soon as possible."

Oasis connected with a whole generation - the right band always comes around at the right time (c.f. Beatles, Jam, Roses) and that's why people still hold a place for them in their hearts - the music might not be as goos as it used to be but let's face it the whole scene would be even more boring if Noel and Liam weren't around. It's time NME waved goodbye to the babyshambles / libertines / DPT circus.

It wouldn't be hard to be better then oasis musically thats a fact. But with all this comotion surrounding pete, Babyshambles and the libertines it will be hard to surpass oasis on the business side of music.

how can anybody ever say oasis are rubbish? need i list the awards and records they have achieved? this is to you anthony1990 because you cannot clearly understand good music when it is announced everywhere you idiot. and also people pete doherty is a genius, the libertines and babyshambles are better that any other band that have come out of this millenium. if you dont like good music go and listen to my chemical romance or scouting for girls
