Beastie Boys release new songs as surprise gifts

Band give away vinyl singles of new tracks

Beastie Boys have given fans vinyl singles featuring new material as surprise gifts contained within their album box sets.

The rap trio have surprised some fans by stowing away a seven-inch release featuring new songs 'Lee Majors Comes Again' and 'B Boys In The Cut' in some editions of the collectors' box set version of their 1992 album, 'Check Your Head'.

Snippets of both the new songs are being streamed at music blog Mic-to-mic.blogspot.com.

'Lee Majors Comes Again' is a fast-paced, short rocky number, while 'B Boys In The Cut' features a capella rapping. It is unclear if they will appear on the band's forthcoming new album, due later in 2009.

Believe it or not, what looks likely to be called 'Tadlock's Glasses' will be Beastie Boys' eight studio album. Recorded in their own New York studio and using samples plucked from shops the world over, it sees them ditch politics and going back to their party-starting roots. Expect steel drums, a collaboration with Santogold and a huge world tour in 2009. Release date: Expected late Spring 2009.
