Cheeky Cheeky And The Nosebleeds are no more

Band announce name change

Cheeky Cheeky And The Nosebleeds have announced they are to change their name with immediate effect.

The band now want to be known as The Cheek.

The group announced the name change from the stage during their Shockwaves NME Awards Show last night (February 17) at London's O2 Islington Academy.

In a statement, The Cheek said that 'time constraints' had led to the decision.

"We worked out the amount of time it was taking us just saying our band name every day," said frontman Charlie Dobney. "It takes about two seconds to say 'Cheeky Cheeky And The Nosebleeds', and we say our band name sometimes 20 times a day. That's like four-and-a-half minutes every week. More than four hours a year.

"We're getting an extra three hours a year back just by becoming The Cheek".

The band are currently holed up in the studio, recording with White Lies, Pulp and Suede producer Ed Buller.

Dobney said they are trying to write "pop songs for the decade to come".

Surely that statement should read "Our record company said our current name was too alienating and so we've decided to change it to something much more generic in the hope of getting played on Radio One daytime." The Cheek is a terrible name.

the cheek are better than your mother toaster bitch (and she's had far more experience than these young lads). fair play to them if they're able to ride the charts down to a name change
