Exclusive: Beth Ditto not designing for New Look
'It's a misunderstanding' say the high street clothes chain
She has had no contact with the clothes store, NME.COM can reveal.
The news comes despite Ditto having asked designer Giles Deacon for help on a supposed range.
“It’s definitely not happening,” said a spokesperson for New Look. “It’s a misunderstanding. We did send Beth some clothes samples as gifts, as we do many celebs, but we have had no contact with her at all. I think she may have received the clothes and misunderstood.”
The news will surprise Ditto, as she has openly talked about working with the brand.
Yesterday (July 19) designer Deacon told The London Paper: “She asked me for help on her designs for New Look, as I have worked with them [before]”.
Ditto has often spoken of her desire to produce a clothing line.
“I want to design,” she said after refusing to play a Top Shop instore gig in protest about the shop's lack of clothes for larger people. “I want you to make clothes for big girls and boys!"
However singer should not be too disheartened by the news as New Look said they might be interested in a line.
“It’s fab that she’s interested in New Look,” explained the chain’s spokesperson. “I’d imagine that any clothes store would be thrilled to have Beth approach them.”
