Interpol play biggest ever UK gig
New Yorkers thrill with Palace show
The New Yorkers played the first of their two nights at Alexandra Palace in north London.
As usual the band kept banter to a minimum, save for a few Elvis Presley-esque "Thank you very much" from frontman Paul Banks.
Instead Interpol allowed the venue's giant main hall and a suitably huge video screen to create an epic atmosphere in the ornate surroundings.
Mixing songs from their three albums, the band included the likes of'Narc', 'Mammoth' and 'Evil' in a crisp set that overcame the venue's tricky acoustics.
A first London performance of third album closer 'Lighthouse' proved the evening's highlights as Banks and guitarist Daniel Kessler played the track before their bandmates joined in to close the song in thunderous fashion.
Meanwhile recent single 'The Heinrich Maneuver' ensured that the sold-out crowd got their hips swinging.
Returning to the stage for a heart-stopping encore, the band wrapped up the show - confirming their comfortable rise into the larger venues - with confident versions of 'Untitled', 'Stella Was A Driver' and 'PDA'.
Interpol played:
'Pioneer To The Falls'
'Obstacle 1'
'C'mere'
'Narc'
'Pace Is The Trick'
'Say Hello To The Angels'
'Hands Away'
'Mammoth'
'No I In Threesome'
'Slow Hands'
'Rest My Chemistry'
'Lighthouse'
'Evil'
'Heinrich Maneuver'
'Not Even Jail'
'Untitled'
'Stella Was A Diver And She Was Always Down'
'PDA'
Interpol play their second night at Alexandra Palace tonight (November 30).
