Jay-Z's mother honoured by New York City Council
And Shawn Carter is there to cheer her on
Carter received the proclamation for her work with the Shawn Carter Scholarship Fund which helps disadvantaged youths achieve college educations. The charity also has a mentoring programme.
Carter also went to Houston in 2005 to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina who fled their homes in New Orleans.
The ceremony took place at City Hall’s Council Chambers yesterday. Jay-Z was present to see his mother receive the framed proclamation and told reporters her was “very proud” of her.
