MGMT/Of Montreal 'leaks' are fake
Blikk Fang demos doing the rounds are supposedly imposters
MP3s purporting to be demos of material by Blikk Fang, the side-project formed by MGMT's Andrew Van Wyngarden and Of Montreal's Kevin Barnes, are fake, according to Barnes.
The frontman said that two songs which some fans had believed were Blikk Fang recordings were in fact old demos – one by Barnes and one by Van Wyngarden
"It's total garbage, it's a total lie, those songs aren’t even Blikk Fang songs," Barnes told BBC 6music.
"The one song is a Misfits cover that I did as a B-side four years ago, which is nothing to do with Andrew, and the other song is a demo he made in his dorm room three or four years ago."
He added that the pair did have plans to record together – but were finding it tough due to scheduling.
"I would love to focus more on Blikk Fang this year," he said, "but it's been hard because we both travel so much and we're both so busy with our own things. We're slowly putting something together."
