MIA denies supporting terrorism

Rapper speaks out after DeLon issues video accusation

MIA has responded to claims by Sri Lankan rapper DeLon that she supports terrorism.

In an online video on Ceylon Records website, DeLon accused the singer of supporting the Tamil Tigers, a militant group currently at war with the Sri Lankan government.

MIA's father is a political activist and founder of the Eelam Revolutionary Organisation of Students, a group with links to the Tamil Tigers.

However the singer, who was born in Sri Lanka, issued a statement countering the accusations and accusing DeLon of seeking publicity, reports BBC News.

"I don't support terrorism and never have," she wrote. "As a Sri Lankan that fled war and bombings, my music is the voice of the civilian refugee. Frankly, I am not trying to start dialogue with someone who is really just seeking self-promotion."

I like M.I.A....I really do. But I think she's just a little bit full of Shite. She's tangled up her music and her image with some questionable political sentiment, images and symbols. I don't think she needs to explain it because it seems pretty obvious to me; it's along the lines of the Manics(clueless) going to Cuba and meeting with Fidel AND liking it (hilarious!!). Or say Rage Against the Machine(hypocrites) speaking out against US abuses and meanwhile collecting BIG FAT CHECKS from their merchandising of Che Guevara to buy themselves nice houses. Granted, there are 2 sides to every coin and I do think it's somewhat subjective and a matter of perspective. But at the same time, it's like 50 Cent saying he doesn't glorify guns and misogynistic behaviour. Sorry to break the news love, but he does. I'll close with this: I saw M.I.A. live and what I remember the most is the CONSTANT sound of machine gun fire samples she kept triggering throughout her set. I go to shows to hear music, not to take a trip to the Gaza Strip.

All the politics and issues aside, I checked out Delon and wanted to see what was up with this character. He is a pretty darn good rapper, I should say, and has got a lot of talent. I found him at myspace.com/delonrap.
