Tabloid Hell: Mika thwarts Boyzone comeback
Singer dubs pop stars 'too cheesy' to use his song
Just as Boyzone were preparing to release their comeback single, Mika threw a spanner in the works.
Boyzone had been planning to release the Mika-penned track ‘I Gave It All Away’ as their first single after a seven-year absence, when the singer decided he wouldn’t give it away to them after all, dubbing the band “too cheesy”.
Boyzone, who had already recorded a version of the track they were thrilled with, have been left gutted, according to The Sun.
A spokesperson for the band said: “It’s a real shame because it’s an incredible song and we all loved it. I’ve heard the track and I think Mika is being a spoilsport for not allowing Ronan and co to release it... It would have been a huge Number One for Boyzone, and Mika’s decision has cost him a fortune.”
A source close to Mika revealed that although the chart-bothering singer is keen to start writing for other pop artists, he finds Boyzone “a bit too cheesy.” Hmmph.
