Joy Division's 'Love Will Tear Us Apart' voted ultimate Manchester anthem

Joy Division's 1980 single 'Love Will Tear Us Apart' has been voted the ultimate Manchester anthem by NME.COM users.

The song and the other 29 Manchester anthems featured in the countdown are available to listen to on a free podcast now.

Former Smiths and current Cribs guitarist Johnny Marr helped present the countdown with presenter Iain Baker on Friday (May 29) on NME Radio.

What an absolute fucking over-sentimental sympathy vote. If this award was about the music it should have been given to The Stone Roses or The Smiths. Joy Division were a great band but they don't deserve this.

as much as i like joy division and also the smiths, when i think of manchester i think of the roses and the mondays.
