Lucky Dube murdered in South Africa
Reggae star is thought to have been the victim of a carjacking
The African musician, whose full name was Lucky Phillip Dube, was dropping his son and daughter off in the Rosettenville suburb of the South African capital on Thursday evening (October 18) when three shots were fired into his car.
Witnesses told BBC News that the wounded Dube tried to drive his Chrysler away and hit a tree after he was shot.
The 43-year-old was then declared dead at the scene.
Dube had been a global star since the 1980s, when he left behind the traditional Zulu music of his youth to embrace reggae.
There have been calls for the country’s rugby side to pay tribute to the singer at tomorrow’s (October 20) Rugby World Cup Final where South Africa take on England.
