Bernard Butler hits out at 'Britpop reunions'

Former Suede star is 'uncomfortable with nostalgia'

Former Suede guitarist Bernard Butler has hit out at high-profile "Britpop reunions".

The BRIT Award-winning producer, who has worked with Duffy and Black Kids, criticised bands from the '90s making comebacks.

He said: "There's an awful lot of Britpop reunions going on at the moment and I find it embarrassing personally. I think it's got no relevance to what's going on at the moment.

"I know it's good fun and everything and sure, you can't deny someone a good night out, but personally I just feel uncomfortable with nostalgia."

Butler, who reunited briefly with former Suede singer Brett Anderson to form The Tears in 2004, also confirmed his old band have had no offers to make a comeback.

"I've never had an offer to do anything as Suede," he told BBC News. "I hate the idea of it. It doesn't work. And it doesn't interest with me at all."

Maybe he's upset that Suede weren't nearly as good as any of the bands he's mentioned? I found The Verve reunion to be incredibly good for music and relevant - it showed everyone how crap Ashcroft is solo, for one, and hopefully he hears the support of his fanbase and continues on with The Verve. Forth was one of the best albums of the year.

What a hypocrite! First off, he reunites with McAlmont and then Brett Anderson. Suede have had no offers to reunite coz they were shite. I hadn't realised that Blur had split-up.

"Hits Out"... "Bernard Butler", oh why did i read this. He says "I know it's good fun and everything and sure, you can't deny someone a good night out but personally I just feel uncomfortable with nostalgia." Sounds sarcastic there.... i think... lol. Oh come on who don't love nostalgia. Thats just a human thing... very strange....

That's all very well but would we even know who Butler was if he hadn;t been in Suede?

verve union worked out? there is only 3songs good as ashcrofts solo, i never get why he reform the band while he can wrote songs as music is power or break the night with colour.. and what a funicilious comment from bernard after he reformed and disbanded with brett just because record company realize they can't make as many top10 hits as suede (in that case the tears would be still round no matter how much it feels "unconfortable")

Whats he talking about? Blur only have two albums linked to the Britpop era and that doesn't stop the songs sounding good now, they have 5 other albums worth of material and b-sides to play too, he's talking as if there Mansun or Dodgy!! Plus as mentioned they never actually split and have had material out this decade. And the Verve would hardly be classed as Britpop sound.
