The Coral speak about hero worship from Arctic Monkeys

James Skelly says 'it's what you do it for'

The Coral have spoken out about their influence on Arctic Monkeys, claiming that inspiring younger bands is what they play music for.

Arctic Monkeys' Alex Turner has often name-checked the Wirral group as one of his favourite bands in interviews, and they invited the Scouse group to support them at the Arctic Monkeys' Old Trafford Cricket Ground gigs last summer.

Speaking to BBC 6Music, The Coral's frontman James Skelly explained: "They're a good group but if someone says that and likes you, then it's good. It's what you do it for."

The Coral performed an acoustic set at London's Royal Opera House last night, performing a handful of new songs - they were also joined by Lightning Seeds' Ian Broudie, who has produced the band in the past.

The Coral are miles better than Arctic Monkeys could ever be. Them supporting Arctic Monkeys is like The Beatles supporting Wet Wet Wet.
