The Cribs defy doctors' orders to finish tour
Gary Jarman reveals doctors wanted him in hospital for three days
The Cribs’ bassist Gary Jarman, who was recently hospitalised with blood poisoning after a gig in Sheffield, has revealed how he defied doctors’ orders by leaving hospital to continue his band’s tour.
Speaking before The Cribs' gig last night (October 17) at London’s Forum, Jarman explained to NME.COM that he was put on an antibiotic IV drip in hospital, and doctors told him he’d have to stay there for three days.
After negotiating with the doctors, they reluctantly agreed to allow him to leave with oral antibiotics, with orders to check his arm regularly and go to the nearest hospital if any complications arose.
Jarman went on to say he took the decision to leave hospital so as not to disappoint fans who had travelled to the band’s next scheduled gig at Norwich’s UEA venue (October 7), and not to let down his support acts.
“[Support act] Bobby Conn has come all the way from Chicago,” Jarman said. “He’s done it off his own back and he’d lose loads of money, so I didn’t want to cancel.”
The Cribs’ gig last night was typically frenetic, with frontman Ryan Jarman leaping into the crowd near the end of the set where he was mobbed by fans.
Jarman sarcastically introduced ‘Don’t You Wanna Be Relevant?’, their forthcoming brand new single, by saying “here’s another single we’ve re-released over and over and over again to rip you good people off.”
The gig ended with Jarman shirtlessly singing ‘Shoot The Poets’ acoustically, followed by ‘The Wrong Way To Be’ during which he bashed his guitar against brother Gary Jarman’s bass guitar then left the stage to manic whoops and cheers.
