Carl Barat refuses to reunite The Libertines

'It's the last thing I wanna do,' he says

Carl Barat has refused to reunite The Libertines, despite Pete Doherty revealing in this week's issue of NME that the band had been offered £2 million to do so.

Doherty said he was prepared to reunite the band, who split in 2004, for the cash.

"We had some ridiculous offers to headline Reading," Doherty said. "Like £2 million to headline this festival, £1 million to headline that festival. I said, 'Why don't we just do it? Let's get the old band back together.'"

Speaking to BBC 6Music, Barat said he was not considering the possibility of getting his old band back together.

"I've just freed myself up so the last thing I wanna do is completely burden my mind [with a Libertines reunion]," he said.

Instead, Barat said he is concentrating on launching an acting career.

"I got into it [acting] doing that film thing with 'Telstar', the Joe Meek biopic [where Barat played the role of Gene Vincent]. I was in that, and I've got another thing coming up - I think there's room in my life for both [music and acting]," he said.

"I don't really wanna do 'Holby City' or 'The Bill', you know what I mean? I'd rather do a film really, or I might do a play one day, learn the craft."

Yesterday (February 11), Barat announced his debut UK solo gig, to take place at Wakefield's Escobar on March 7.

It's the last thing we want too, Carl.

the last thing he wants to do? Wouldn't he rather see the libertines fans rocking out to the whole band rather than sitting watching his solo stuff out of sympathy and blind loyalty... as for his acting skills, he's in the film for the whole of 5 mins looking like a gay teddy boy, i doubt DeNiro is shitting himself....

Burden your mind with 2 million quid?

I admire him for not just doing it for the money. Imagine how awful being around Pete is that you'd quite happily turn down £2 million. I loved The Libertines but I don't want them to get back together. No good would come of it! After everything that's happened it would just never be the same.

Good! leave the libertines history where it is! I wouldn't blame any of them for wanting a share of 2 million quid, its the people who pile on the pressure that i blame! Just fucking leave it where it is for god sake. Onwards and upwards, yes it was fantastic but it'll always be that as long as it's left alone!

As a huge Libertines fan, I have always had the fear that the boys would get together for money, but always believed that one or both of them would have the dignity to stick by everything they ever believed in,and not do it. I'm proud! We must remember, before the Libs, Carl was a Drama major at university. So he's been into acting for a long time! xx
