Pete Doherty: 'We've discussed making a new Libertines album'

Singer/guitarist reveals what he and Carl Barat discussed at reunion

Pete Doherty has revealed that he and Carl Barat discussed plans to make an album and tour together after The Libertines reunited for a one-off gig in London in May.

The Babyshambles frontman has repeatedly outlined his desire to reform the band properly, but has not spoken about the discussions he and Barat have had until now.

However, he has now told The Times that the pair talked about returning to the studio in 2010 following their show at the Rhythm Factory, a tribute for late promoter Johnny Sedassy, who used to organise the band's shows.

"We had a good couple of hours [after the show]," he said. "We were up all night together. It was amazing really. I think we're gonna make a record and tour. Get The Libertines to take it to the next step, next stage."

Doherty also said that he had another solo album in mind – a follow-up to his 'Grace/Wastelands' record, which was released in March.

"I just see 'Grace/Wastelands 2'," he said. "I think I've got a 'Harvest' [classic Neil Young album] in there. I keep getting flashes of it, even if it's just for a couple of minutes."

ugh. either record an album and do some shows or don't, we are all very bored with hearing about the possibility of this. either way i am sure it will better than all he crap they've done since the band started splitting up. Yeti are the shit, learn from them pete & carl

I really hope they dont reform. brilliant band of their time, if they patched things up and reformed it would simply be for the money, something the libertines aren't meant to stand for?

Hi, the Libertines are one of the best bands I've ever heard. I know they might not be able to represent a scene anymore but if they can get a little bit of the Up the Bracket magic back I'm willing to forgive a total lack of credibility. Interestingly when I visited London back in 2004 a lot of the people I talked to didn't really like them or think they're talented. Well, everyone over on this side of the pond thinks they're great. Come on and conquer America lads! I saw them in Boston at the Paradise club sans Pete and they were still great.

If Pete can lay off the hard stuff then maybe if this happens they can create some music to smile about. Most sane peope are sick of hearing of Petes problems, its about time he made the headlines for the right reasons.Up the Bracket was immense so we know what the band are capable.I hope this happens

I agree completely with yogavo.... this news is 2 years too late... I for one a big Lib fan, do not care any more... there are many more decent bands out at the monent to care about The old shipwreck that is Albion. the word Kerching seems to ring in my ears though, and Pete has'nt paid his Lecky bill this month...

yeti...i was in shock. thought album would be rubbish and it is actually really good sunny afternoon music. love it. and bring back gary. his drumming makes many of the libs songs so good and is what some of the libs off-shoots have missed. delaney live...cant get enough of those drums. one of those cases when you add up all the parts...blah blah blah

This would have been exciting 2/3 years ago.. now it's just boring. The album, unless they dramatically change, will be atrocious. Fuck albion. Leave it in the past.

Why do people always so brusquely declare post-libs music as "crap"? So that means Fuck Forever, Albion, I Wish are poor songs? Aside from the utterly terrible Pentonville there is very little Babyshambles music that could be argued crap. As for Dirty Pretty Things, well, you cant have everything!

They're just contrived shit. Always have been, always will be. They're a marketing dweebs wet dream, and anyone who falls for their blag is a brainless horsechild. I'm not joking. Shame on Mick Jones for lowering himself to this level of consumerist manipulation. No wonder Joe had a heart attack.

Jesus, folks...why so cynical? I mean, it's possible it's for the money and I'm always suspicious of the rich and famous...but it's also perfectly sensible that they actually want to get back together and play together. Obviously any Libs fan can see that had something special--something that they and anyone would miss and want back! Yeah these rumors do seem to be dragging on, but I really don't see the "consumerist manipulation", etc.I'm just hoping Peter figures his stuff out...and makes more good music.

The whole thing is a scam Rusty. The break ups, the break-ins, the no-shows, the house parties and now the reformation... It's a soap opera, scripted and planned to a T. That is how it is manipulative. And besides, Pete Doherty looks like Helena Bonham Carter with male pattern baldness.
