The Magic Numbers among bands for C86 festival The Magic Numbers Tickets

London bash is inspired by old NME tape

The Magic Numbers are set to play C86 - Still Doing It For Fun- a two day festival celebrating the C86 covermounted tape originated by NME.

The C86 tape appeared in 1986 and, according to Saint Etienne member Bob Stanley, was “the beginning of indie music".

The original tape featured Primal Scream and amongst others.

The phrase C86 subsequently became shorthand for music that featured jangly guitars and ‘twee’ songs.

The festival is set to take place at London’s ICA on October 27-28.

The line up is:

October 27
The Magic Numbers
Gokart Mozart
Vic Godard & The Subway Sect
Saint Etienne (DJ set)
Jeff Barrett (Heavenly Recordings, DJ set)

October 28
Roddy Frame (Aztec Camera)
Phil Wilson (Junebrides)
The Wolfhounds
The Pastels (DJ set)

Tickets will be available from Tuesday (October 10). For availability go to NME.COM/gigs.
