The Verve deny V Festival cancellation rumours

Band set for weekend shows despite Nick McCabe 'cutting finger'

The Verve have denied rumours that they are on the verge of cancelling their V Festival appearances this weekend (August 16-17).

Holy Moly reported that guitarist Nick McCabe had allegedly been sectioned following The Verve's appearance at the Summer Sonic festival in Japan at the weekend.

The guitarist was said to have been hospitalised after the gig and flew home separately from his bandmates.

However a spokesperson for the band denied that The Verve would drop out of this weekend's festival, stating that McCabe had instead cut his finger.

"Contrary to rumours circulating Nick McCabe cut his finger on piece of glass in the dressing room after the gig in Japan," they told NME.COM. "He was treated by medics at the scene and then flew home. He's fine except for sore finger and that won't effect their appearance at V at the weekend."

Thank god - they're the only act I'm really looking forward this weekend....

Fenderrio, its more ridiculous that it matters to you when kol are playing, they are playing, you'll see them... all is good! verve are the better live band anyway :-)

Interesting. I try not to take the media too seriously, but first we have Richard saying that things aren't all rosy in the band...then a week later he says he'd be open to continuing his solo career (though in fairness he said he'd be fine doing both Verve and solo material simultaneously)...and now this. Even HM doesn't have the full story; no one is reporting on what actually happened. If what HM is saying is true, there should be video or audio of Richard bashing a guitar and then the subsequent feedback/noise on Bittersweet that would have pissed Richard off. NME, or someone, try to get the full scoop and figure out what's going on. I don't think the fans can endure yet another Verve bust-up/break-up over a crap gig in Japan when they've finally returned to give us yet another great album & tour. Come on guys, get it together and don't screw it up this time!

Because Fenderrio, as great a band Kings of Leon are, they're not in the same league as the Verve. Compare the two bands back-catalogues and you'll see what I mean

got the new album... its pretty damn good!

I'm a huge Verve fan, but I don't agree with you at all DaveIndieBoy. KOL's first and third albums are miles better than the Verve's first and third. Obviously 'Nothern Soul' is superior to ' Because Of The Times' though. We'll just have to wait and see how each bands fourth albums fair when compared.

...Correction to my last comment. I meant to write 'Aha Shake Heartbreak', not 'Because Of The Times'

Kings Of Leon and The Verve, two of the worst bands around at the moment, both just so boring, and the new Verve single, horrendous sounds like it could be a McFly song!

they're both great bands in their own rights, who gives a shit who's playin before who......they're both playin, thats the main thing...and they're both shit hot live!!!

Your bias towards KOL is well documented on these boards though rubbersoul7. To the average music fan who favours neither KOL or Verve, the latter have the stronger catalogue. Although Forth sounds the weakest of the bunch.

The reason KOL are not headlining is because they are pale next to The Verve. The sort of crowd which V attracts would much rather see The Verve headline, me included. Why put Prodigy and Muse at the same time however, V organisers really piss me off

Gravey, my bias towards KOL is well documented? No it isn't, I hardly ever comment on them. Even if I did it would be well justified. For anyone to talk down about KOL, even when compared to The Verve is ridiculous. KOL are simply superb and anyone that has heard their albums or (especially) seen them live will testify to that. I saw both bands live last year and KOL were the superior act. I'm not slagging The Verve off by stating this, I fuckin love them and have done since their first album came out, but KOL's raw southern sound is far more satisfying. Caleb's voice in on another level too. Soundedd, your comments can't be taken seriously at all mate. KOL and The Verve are both brilliant, but wasn't it you that said you loved Keane?

Gravey, you're not making sense at all son. You 'rest your case'? What the fuck are you going on about you pillock? You claimed that my bias toward KOL is well documented, err ok, how did my last comment prove your point? I have probably commented on them about two or three times the whole time i've been posting on here. Stop trying to appear clever when you're clearly not.

rubbersoul as you told me "relax", not everyone loves KOL and The Verve, there two of the bands I and notice the word "I" hate most, Keane have more record sales than KOL and will overtake the Verve, I knows that's irrelevant when dog shit like Katy Perry is toping the charts but even so, i just generally hate Caleb Folan and his awful voice, and Ashcroft can't stand him, only one 90's band I'm intrested in and there new single is on the radio tommorow at 8am!, Keane are class, love the new single! just my opinion thats all, I generally generally hate Kings Of Leon

Settle down, it's nothing personal. The original debate was whether The Verve would be better headliners than KOL. I believe The Verve would be better, and I neither favour them nor KOL. You believe KOL would be better headliners, and you are a KOL evangelist.
