White Stripes' Jack White donates $170,000 to Detroit baseball park
Guitarist used to play ball at Clark Park
The White Stripes, The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather leader has donated $170,000 (£102,000) to help restore a Detroit baseball park he used to play in.
White recently made the donation to aid the restoration of Clark Park in south west Detroit, reports The Detroit News.
The guitarist's former coach, Morris 'Mo' Blackwell Jr., told the newspaper that he had shown promise as a baseball player.
"He was good," he recalled. "Smooth left-handed swing."
Deb Sumner, a volunteer at the park, said that White had kept in regular contact with workers at the park.
She said she remembered him visiting with his ex-girlfriend, "Rene Wellzinger, or however you say it," meaning actress Renee Zellweger.
