Gerry Marsden given Freedom Of Liverpool
Gerry And The Pacemakers man honoured for his charity work and music
Gerry And The Pacemakers' Gerry Marsden has been awarded the freedom of Liverpool by the Lord Mayor Steve Rotherham.
Marsden celebrated receiving the honour by singing an impromptu version of his best-known song 'Ferry Cross The Mersey' while aboard the Royal Iris ferry on the river.
He said he was "thrilled" to be receiving the honour, particularly because it recognises his charity work, reports BBC News.
He said: "I am delighted to be awarded this honour in the city that I love. Everyone knows that I'm extremely proud of Liverpool and this really is the icing on the cake for me."
Gerry And The Pacemakers helped define the Merseybeat sound of the '60s.
