Lily Allen

The Fear

Embarrassing chat show host, drug spokeswoman, winner of the 2008 Nipple Flasher Of The Year Award: it’s easy to forget what Lily Allen was famous for in the first place. And comeback single ‘The Fear’ does little to help lyrically – its obsessions are celebrity culture, tabloid exposure, the hunt for size zero and a lust for diamonds. But whether bird-flipping autobiography or statement on the vacuity of tabloid-stapledom, thank Christ the tune’s a stonker: pastoral ’lectro-pop with a sunbeam-on-your-face chorus, just like Sugababes used to make.

A really good tune, very catchy. I agree though, that while on record it sounds great, after catching her perform it on Jonathan Ross her songwriting doesn't really hold up to the music. Without that lead electro-pop synth line, it sounded shite. As did her voice. Give me the karaoke version and i'll be happy.

I agree with hotmilk, sounds almost passable on record, but her woeful performance on Wossy, showed up the waffer thin songwriting for what it was.

totally agree with nickster and hotmilk... doesn't hold up to the music at all.
