Wild Beasts

Assembly

With a squeaky-voiced singer and song structures like falling down a flight of stairs, the mere existence of Wild Beasts in a rational universe poses questions about how much wilful perversity one band can get away with. ‘Assembly’ continues their tradition of sticking two fingers up to a rational universe and blowing a raspberry at it. A breathless piano jaunt through the madness zoo, it has Hayden slobbering about how his “Goose-pimpled gourd” will “quiver the jellies of every heavy”. The further they fling themselves into the weirdosphere, the more accessible they seem to become.

I'm sorry, but Wild Beasts are far more brilliant than you give them credit for. They are one of the only bands in existance whose singer you can't immitate the voice of, they have the most infectious drum beats I have heard for a long time, and they are so geeky it's cool. I have seen them twice now, once when we played with the at the love apple in bradfor, the other when we played with the at the cockpit the other month and they were fantastic both times. They are completely fresh and new and exciting and I love them
