Another preview of 2009 now when I present The Pains of Being Pure at Heart and a song from their forthcoming, self titled album, to be released on legendary indie label Slumberland in the US and Fortuna Pop in the UK, in February. The Pains.. is a quartet from New York that does irresistibly catchy, guitar driven pop music reminiscent of everything good that has come out of indie since the days of C-86. The album is a power-twee joyride from start to finish and deserves just as much attention as the albums recently released by fellow New Yorkers Crystal Stilts and Vivian Girls. "The Tenure Itch" is one of the many highlights of this album and although you can easily compare The Pains to the old Sarah band The Field Mice, I think this song is them pulling a Stone Roses, with great success.
